Support your local businesses!
It is in every local person's interest to do so.
Our town centers and villages are under threat. Help keep the profits and wealth circulating in the valleys by supporting your local business people and traders. It is the small shops that give our towns and villages their identity. Their success means that local people will have real full time employment and that our well established, traditional shopping centers will be saved from falling into a state of disrepair and remain at the hart of our communities. There is much to be said for the popular saying 'Use them or loose them', because once they are gone they will be gone for ever.

The question:- Which of these is a zebra?
1
2
4
3
The answer:- None of them!!!

No 1 is a very strange looking hippo, No 2 is a stripy donkey, and No 3 could be our little bunny rabbit after my young grandson has run amok with a felt tipped pen;
which beggars the question, 'what about No 4?'

Picture No 4 shows an area that purports to contain two official zebra crossings. They have the large white stripes and flashing beacons, but have no zigzag markings, nor studs. They are located at junctions, and parked cars have to reverse onto them in order to leave. They mislead customers into thinking that they represent safe official crossings, when in fact they mean nothing. They are located within the grounds of a large local supermarket and are typical of most crossing points on privately owned out of town shopping areas.
Supermarket car parks have the potential to be extremely dangerous places for both drivers and pedestrians. How can they get away with it? Mislead a customer into thinking that he is having a bargain when he is not and receive a conviction in court. Mislead a customer into thinking that he is safely using an official zebra crossing when he isn't, and get the approval of the council's planning department.

Check your insurance cover!
Most insurance policies do not cover you nor your vehicle when used on private property, so not only do these places give you a false sense of safety, but you may not even be able to claim any compensation if you are involved in an accident on these roads and imitation zebra crossings.

So when you next visit your out of town supermarket, be very very careful.
